Introducing ... Mr. Darcy

He's handsome, he's reserved, he's a brunette, just like this one. So, what's more to say?

Oh, yes. Here's My Mr. Darcy.

He's 5 pounds of happy. He already heels.
Note, please there are 2 puppies here, but still, he's heeling. Never mind that he's in between my legs. He still needs to learn left from right from middle. But he's doing quite well at heeling, completely self-taught. Also at tripping me, again, completely self-taught.

Now as to #1 and #2. So far he hasn't had a single accident. We race outside through drifts of leaves taller than he is to get his innards going. And shazaam! There it comes. See how proud he is? Every hour on the hour. Thanks to Cary I've got superb vet instructions on how to train myself. This is a rare instance outside. Usually he's doing his in-the-middle heeling.

Here he is doing his favorite activity. Well, not his very favorite most activity. That one is sitting in someone's lap. This is definitely a social animal. He was with his siblings until yesterday and is lonesome. We're trying to make up for it. But 24/7? I'm pooped! And has this boy got lungs! For such a tiny thing his voice carries 24/7 when he's lonesome.
Because he's 6 weeks old he's in a chewing mode - not terribly destructive yet (got chew toys), more in a tasting mode. He's tasted my face and hands and fingers innumerable times.
So he's already a joy. But, did I mention I'm exhausted?

  • Puppy Love--
I don't know if it makes the world go 'round, but it sure keeps it from wobbling.

Both Mr. Darcys are very handsome.

  • Great name, i love it!
And he's cute. Both the dog and Colin Firth.

  • PUPPIES!!! And I'm sure it's a real hardship having to cuddle with a bundle of velvet.

BTW, are there two puppies or three in that one picture. Because I'd swear there's an extra tail in there.

    Congrats.

  • So cute!

Love the name too. My current wallpaper on my laptop is a pic of Colin Firth in a bubble-filled bathtub.

    sigh...

  • So cute!!! I love puppies, but have never gotten to experience all the fun(?).

And yep, at that age, dogs are required to investigate. And how do you investigate, when you don't have fingers to grasp at things of interest? You pick them up in your mouth. Smart puppy. Requires smart owners - and no worries about you, since you've been checking out Dr. Dunbar. I love him. Met him in person about a month ago. He is a wonderful resource for dog training. You'll have to see if one of your local stores has the next book "How to Teach an Old Dog New Tricks".

As for missing his littermates, there are things you can try. He should be sleeping quite a bit. Leave him in his crate with a covered water bottle and old fashioned gently-ticking wind-up clock. The warmth of the water bottle and the ticking sound will (very roughly) simulate the experience of sleeping with his old "family".

    Congrats!

  • Darcy (yours) is precious. Hopefully, he'll sleep at night soon.

  • Yay GP! he's adorable. I was looking at Ky's puppy pictures the other day. He just turned four. I'm not sure anything could entice me to have a puppy again. I don't think I slept for the first year. But it sounds like your knowledge is light years away from mine at that time. Takes lots of pictures. Cuddle him more. They grow up so fast. Enjoy your Darcy.
