The Kitchen that DH Built
General plan: Easy to clean and reach, adjustable shelves, no wasted space in corners.
European (frameless) cabinets
Floor space: 19' X 12'
34 Doors: solid cherry, raised panel
9 Drawers: solid cherry front panel, plywood boxes
Cases: Plywood with cherry veneer
23' of counter top: Corian-like, off white
Vinyl flooring, flourescent lights over all the ceiling.
Tour: Counterclockwise, starting to left of plant cabinet.

Pantry

Pantry with doors open. Wire shelves on doors, non-adjustable, deep enough to hold extra inventory behind that displayed.

Oven (electric and regular, convection, regular/convection, self-cleaning) and baking tins above. And reflections.

Same view with cabinet doors open

Dishwasher and trash cabinet

Dishwasher open (lots of adjustments possible), trash cabinet open. Two bins of trash containers. One has 13 gal plastic bag for wet, the other a grocery bag for dry.

Large and small sink molded into counter top. Faucet pulls out as shown, fits into socket to act as regular faucet.

Corner base cabinet. Flat cabinet above.

Two lazy susans that hold heavy and/or not often used stuff, like pressure canner, juicer. Counter has breadmaker, coffee maker, toaster, dish drainer. Easy to get at, but the counter there wouldn't be useful for working at.

Same view, but notice the upper cabinet does not turn corner. Stuff in a corner cabinet would not be reachable.
Now we move to opposite wall.

Lower cabinet for plastic container storage. Note 2 pullout shelves. Plastic insert in drawer is cut to fit drawer exactly. Counter space is sacrificed for microwave, since I'm too short to look and stir stuff on a microwave mounted under an upper cabinet.

Cabinet above microwave. 3 Adjustable cherry shelves, can be taken out and washed.

Extra sink with water softener attached. Bottle storage in pull out drawer below. Five drawers to left. Can opener and coffee grinder on counter top. Both can be messy; so a sacrifice to clear countertop to make cleaning up easy.

Pot and pan storage in pull out drawers next to the cooktop.

Turntables with ALPHABETIZED herbs and spices

Gas, 6 burner cooktop and angle to counter. Vent on back edge of cooktop raises up and down, vents under the house.

Back view of cook top. Otherwise wasted corner space is ...

Closed storage for SOME of my cook books!

Partial view of ceiling, all in lights

Lou stole my word! It is AMAZINGLY AWESOME. It is wonderful, clean (both in design and you have a clean kitchen), and I love the cookbook area. Very cool.

Gosh, so many things to love here: the cookbook nook, the SIX burners, lazy susan, and the pull-out shelves! I love it!

Oooh, I like it! I like the cherry wood and whitish combo. Very bright and open but with the warmth and color of the cherry. And yeah, 6 burners on the stove top. I am a wee bit envious.
Tell your DH, well done!!

I am exceedingly jealous! Not only are the cabinets gorgeous (I really love cherry) but you've done so much to maximize the space, and made a place for everything, too. I'm drooling here.

That belongs in Kitchens Beautiful or somewhere like that. I crave your pantry, and the whole organization of the cabinets is wonderful!

GP and Mr. GP - WOW!
Very nice work! The finish is gorgeous.(My dad is a finish/trim carpenter and furniture builder and I'm extra picky about such things!)
Custom work is the best. Those plug and play floor plans and cabinets just are NOT even in the same league.
Hope you enjoyed the Bride's Pie.

It's gorgeous - so beautifully crafted and designed. The combination of white and cherry keeps it bright but rich looking. As Theresa said.
And very nicely kept, too. There's a reason cupboards have doors at my house!
So many things of which to be a tad envious - lovely pantry.
I use the corners of my counters for appliances, too, but the bread machine is not one of the stay-on-top ones (Cuisinart, KitchenAid mixer). Yours looks a lot like mine - Zojirushi?

I LOVE it. Have you considered renting your DH out? Did you design it together or was it all his? Looks so convenient and organized
Brilliant!

What are Mr. GP's rental fees? Don't have much in the way of spare bedroom but it is nice and warm in CO in the summer. Hint, hint, beg, beg.

WOW! I am so impressed. There are two of us in CO so I think we get him first lol I'd love to see what the two of you could do with my postage stamp kitchen.

Seriously? He doesn't think craftsmanship like that is a big deal? My dad did a lot of carpentry and what your DH created in your kitchen IS a big deal. What a fantastic talent he has.
And really, I think I live much closer than anyone else. And my kitchen probably needs more help than anyone else's. You've seen it, so you can't disagree. ;)
Also, you are waaaay too organized. Makes me want to come mess up your tupperware.

The cabinetry work is beautiful. My dad used to do stuff like that. And my cousins had a cabinet shop for awhile (recession did 'em in). Some of their stuff was almost that nice. My mom has a free standing microwave cupboard my dad did. It looks so much better thatn the stuff that came with the house. I particularly love the fact that the stove top is reachable from three sides!! Our stove on the farm was like that. Great for helping cooks. Mom's Kitchen has a couple of cupboards like that, but she only has one small wall of cupboards. She has to put a lot of things in the basement...real handy.

Thanks for all the kind comments about our kitchen. We spent a lot of time planning all the little details and I didn't even charge overtime for all the consultations. When I had my cabinet shop, I worked in several different hardwoods (oak, maple, mahogany, etc) but I think cherry is by far the most beautiful. It ages to a really nice deep color over time.
Now, (ahem), as for all the requests for hiring me out :), there are several major problems, not the least of which is that I'M RETIRED and intend to stay so. Also, when I closed the shop, I had an auction and sold off all the large equipment, keeping only a table saw and several small power and hand tools so that I could keep up with the "honey do" lists around the house. I had a shop that was approximately 1200 square feet and our whole garage is nowhere near that big.
Thanks again for all the kind words.

It just figures that the really good craftsmen are retired (and intend to stay that way). That is an absolutely gorgeous and well organized kitchen. You did a great job.

GP you are MEAN- the pic showing all the lights is making me cry. I have recently resorted to adding a clamp on desk light to the mix so I can get some light in the kitchen.

I have to admit that I live in fear of GP seeing my kitchen now. It's the one room I semi-succeed at keeping clutter out of but ....
Mr. GP (may I call you that?) your work deserves every bit of our praise. And we might even forgive you for retiring before we even had a chance. But really, you should have charged her for that overtime. Extra brownies or something.

Showed my mom the kitchen - she agrees, it is wonderful. (Also, she may steal some ideas for when she does her kitchen.)
*sigh* It's okay, Mr. GP. But you do beautiful work.
